AndroidTV w/ Google Assistant

by sbehts2

I recently switched from an older Samsung TV with a first gen chromecast to a Sony TV with AndroidTV. In addition, there are various devices in the house with Google Assistant (including a Google Home).

I used to be able to say " Ok Google, play 'name of some series' on Netflix on the TV ". Even if the TV was off, it would switch on (HDMI-CEC) and load Netflix on the Chromecast and look for what I asked for. With the new setup this no longer works. First of all, when the TV is off, the built-in cast is off so I need to switch on the TV manually first. Secondly, when the TV is on and I give the command, I get a response " Ok, playing blabla ", immediately followed by " I'm sorry, I can't find that device. "

Am I missing something obvious here?

That's strange. My Sony TV with Android TV is able to the cast to when it's turned off and it will turn itself on and the receiver. Maybe you need to go into settings and make sure that it's still able to use the internet features when the screen is turned off?

Thank you both! There were two issues here: 1) there's a somewhat buried setting to allow wifi devices to wake the TV that was off by default; 2) what /u/simiwood said is indeed correct, the voice command does work for Youtube, no other apps.

Which appears to be yet another case of "Google, get your s*** together"... (that or it's a feature)

Chromecast and chromecast built in have different functonality and youtube only works like that with chromecast built in for now
