Best filemanager on Android TV?

by iroQuai

ES is not an option for me. An older, clean APK is doable, but I prefer an up to date file manager. total commander works, but doesn't look that good.

On my phone I use solid explorer. Works like a charm, but no Android TV support...

Are there any other options that support Android TV?

X-plore

X-Plore in Dark Mode and with the Fullscreen option.

You can actually see where you are copying and moving files with Dual Windows and X-Plore. Makes life so much easier.

The popularity of ES for this job on androidtv always baffled me when x-plore does it much better. Mainly, if I push a direction to select, it actually moves to the item that i think is in that direction. It's free for 90% of its features and they're enough for most. Give it a go.

My biggest problem right now is apps that support external storage that need permission to use the drive don't work. For example tTorrent can download directly to external storage on my phone, but pressing that option on my Mi Box does nothing.

Solid Explorer works pretty well for me, I have installed ftp plugin and that works well also.

Using wireless keyboard with touchpad support.

Definitely X-plore.

MiXplorer works very well. Unfortunately you have to install an APK and manually update it. XDA Labs doesn't seem to work on the Android TV UI.

ive never understood the desire for a file manager to look good, its not like you in it all the time. Personally I always end up back at Total commander, no its not pretty and some of the interface doesnt work well with a remote/gamepad but its fast and does the job

I use X-plore for file management on my Shield TV. Though 90% of the time I was using a file explorer was for sideloading APK files in the past. I found Join lets you push a sideloaded apk to the shield and it is extremely easy. Highly recommend checking out join by joaoapps if your using the file explorer for sideloading.

There is a WiFi server option in X-Plore which lets you upload files to ATV device folders, using a Webpage from a PC / Mac.

On my rooted Minix U9-H box, I use Root Explorer with 3 tabs. One is a device root tab, then my downloads tab, and finally my Google Drive tab for moving files, etc. from PC, Nexus 9 tablet, or my Nexus 5x phone to ATV box. Work very well.

P.S. I remember ES was a simple file manager, then they MASSIVELY BLOATED up and that's when I switched to Root Explorer. Even with Adaway I still get crap from ES.

chandrasaurus

using ES explorer pro. from old version. no bloat. (beware of wild version that contain trojan remote) #expert only ✌

Honestly, they all suck and I refuse to keep using them. Yes that includes ES.

I just intsalled the Plex server extension, whihcenabled me to browse the Android filesystem from a share on my PC. Never looked back.

Use ES File Explorer 3.2.5.5 re-signed. Don't use the new version.

I tried them all but keep going back to ES.
