The device you referenced is a version for Chinese domestic market. It was never designed to support official AndroidTV. Check at https://xiaomi.eu/community/forums/xiaomi-mi-box-mi-tv.116/ for help on this model
Isn't it already running Android? And what kind of situation are you in where rooting is not an option unless you can do it without a USB cable? Very odd.
