I've got a Sony Android SmartTV being delivered soon. While I know I can use Sony's own media player to playback MP4/MKV videos from my USB hard drive, I was wondering what players from the Play store would do a better job? Can they take full advantage of the motion processing?

Kodi without any doubt especially if you have home theater since it can pass through 5.1, or if you want MX Player. Both are the best, but i recommend Kodi.
Motion processing would be a part of the TV, so anything you plug into it would take advantage of it.
the first thing that i do is to disable motion processing on TV's.
it's called VLC, my best recommendation, it can also easily run videos from your NAS/Computer (SMB server & etc )
