[Need help] Mibox nouget beta constantly failed to apply July 1 update for MM.

by nkahoang

Hi all,

I've been running the Mibox on Nougat beta. Recently the box keeps auto downloading the July 1 update for MM, which the box couldn't apply as it can't downgrade to MM.

I've manually tried updating the package, downgrading to MM without success.

I guess I have to wait until a new Nouget build is released. Does anyone know how to block this OTA update? I can do it from the router but doesn't know the IP address(es) to block. Thanks

There is nothing you can do until an updated firmware comes out. You're running a beta firmware, bugs like this are inevitable.

Mi Box support is all but dead. I just pulled the plug on the Mi Box during the update to reboot it and not allow the MM build to fail when running Nougat Beta. And this point Oreo is out and I've given up on there ever being a newer build. Hopefully someday there is a Pixel Player or something to replace this thing.

Block this link at your router. It is the source for all Xiaomi updates.

Many ip addys resolve to this link so use fqdn to block.

You will need to disable it when official Nougat is released.

If it's any consolation, I wasn't able to apply the update either. I contacted Xiaomi about it, and they suggested just to do a factory reset. I thought I'd just wait til a newer update came along, but a couple of days ago I noticed it had updated/installed on its own.

Dead - the Mi Box has had 4 or 5 updates since Oct. 2016. The last one was July this year.

The only useful feature that Nougat would bring is the Recent Apps switcher/killer.

Its not like there is a ton of HDR content to stream anyway.

Nougat - USB Single TV tuner's on Android TV is a joke, yes even on the Shield. Real DVR's include twin tuners so you can actually do something useful with them.

Buy a Network tuner like a refurbished HdHomerun Connect for $50. Instead.

I'm really baffled why people want to turn a basic $69 video streamer into a NVIDIA Shield or a PC.

People need to wake up to reality and actually research what they are buying !!
