I don't know if you guys have been reading the other subreddits but it looks like there's a major opportunity here for Android TV to finally become a major player in the streaming box market.
-
Apple's 4K HDR box is $179 and up. For that, you might as well get an Nvidia Shield and most people won't pay that much.
-
The early leaks surrounding the next FireTV have been met with scorn. If there's actually microphones, an LED bar and a speaker on the next FireTV, well, you're spending money on Alexa equipment rather than a better chipset, better Bluetooth, Gigabit ethernet, or Dolby Vision. And there's people who consider Alexa to be spyware.
If Google does the right thing and introduces a box that:
-
Has a serious enough SOC to run 4K60fps + HDR and any run every app smoothly for years to come.
-
Has things like Gigabit ethernet, updated Bluetooth, Dolby Vision, and a nicer remote.
-
Does NOT have Google Home equipment built-in.
-
Is priced from $99.99-129.99 to undercut Apple and be competitive with FireTV Roku 4K HDR players.
Then this will be the year that Android TV is no longer a minor player in the Western streaming box market.
Let's let Google know this is what we want. Or tell me if you need more.
So a Nvidia Shield without the gaming stuff.
