Is the optical out of the Mi Android TV still broken?

by otakkuma

Hi, I've got a 1080p TV alongside a Xiaomi Mi Android TV Box (the international version, with pure Android TV, on the latest non-beta with Android 6) I'm going to add a low-end Samsung soundbar (a 100$ 80W 2.2 model, nothing fancy, just to improve the sound of the TV, because it's very poor). The soundbar has either analog jack in or digital in. My question is: Since I've read a lot of complaints about the digital out of the Mi Box, is it still an issue? I wanted to connect the Mi TV Box directly to the soundbar via optical cable to improve the sound further. The sources would be Netflix movies mainly, no 4K movies on Plex or anything. Are people still having issues?

Optical out works fine. You need a special cable though to make it work.

Optical out has issues with Plex currently but hopefully Android 7 will fix that

I'm not sure you get 5.1 AC3 Audio from Netflix when connecting Optically to a soundbar with the Mi Box.

On all Android Tv devices - Netflix will only send out 5.1 DD+ Audio to a HDMI connected AVR or TV.
