MiBox - Kodi 5.1 / DTS Audio

by Hhunted

Hi all.

I need some help please. I believe my setup is the reason for my problems I have, but would like to check.

Setup.

MiBox connected to my Samsung Plasma Via HDMI Samsung TV Audio out to Marantz AV receiver via Optical cable.

The reason for my setup is due my Marantz AV receiver not having HDMI ports, thus having to route it like I currently have it.

I have my Mibox set to HDMI as output, but when playing a movie with 5.1 or DTS via Kodi I have no Audio.

I'm not sure if this is a setting issue in the MiBox or a lack of support of the MiBox or if it's something In Kodi that is wrong or if it's case that my TV aren't able to replay the audio stream that come in via the HDMI cable.

Do you guys have any advise?

Do you have passthrough and DTS/DD enabled in Kodi?

Also, since you are using ARC, does your ARC support both DTS and DD?

Your TV might not pass DTS over the optical port. Most only do stereo or Dolby Digital over optical.

If your TV only does Dolby you can have Kodi force a transcode and still get surround sound.

seems like an issue with your TV and what it is cable and setup to output via the optical cable. if you have any settings for that you should put it in passthrough mode, and check the user manual for which formats it can do (and set them in Kodi). if there's no passthrough mode, the TV decodes the 5.1 signal and output stereo..

Hi guys..

Quickly read the Manual and found the following:

DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) •• When you connect a Digital Audio System to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack, decrease the volume of both the TV and the system. •• 5.1 CH (channel) audio is available when you connect the TV to an external device supporting 5.1 CH. •• When the receiver (home theatre) is set to on, you can hear sound output from the TV’s optical jack. When the TV is receiving a DTV signal, the TV will send 5.1 CH sound to the home theatre receiver. When the source is a digital component such as a DVD player / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB (Set-Top-Box) satellite receiver and you connected it to the TV via HDMI, you will only hear 2 CH audio from the home theatre receiver. If you want to hear 5.1 CH audio, connect the digital audio out jack from your DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB satellite receiver directly to an amplifier or home theatre.

I have also read that HDMI 2 is ARC compatible. So I take it that I need to have my MiBox plugged into that HDMI port?

I have my Mi Box connected to an old LCD TV through HDMI and the Mi Box is also connected to my AV receiver to the optical audio cable with a 3.5 mm connector and I am able to hear dolby digital 5.1 but I'm not sure about DTS because my old receiver does not decode it, so what you need to check is this:

  1. Make sure the digital audio settings is set to SPDIF, go to settings -> sounds -> digital sounds

  2. on kodi you need to activate audio passthrough, so go to settings -> sound -> audio passthrough and make sure the first option is activated, also make sure the second, third and fifth options are activated.

After you check all those options, it should work, it works for me at least.

What you want, is to download SPMC on the Mi Box, rather than Kodi

He has DD passthrough working much more consistently
