Google Assistant on Shield Still Missing?

by pianodb

I've had my Shield TV for like several months, and Nvidia still hasn't released the update for Google Assistant. The website still says it's coming in early 2017. What gives Nividia? It's September...

Nvidia has little control over when Google releases Google Assistant for Android TV.

They missed the deadline for a lot of things they announced at that event. I assume they're just waiting to push it all out with Android 8.0 Oreo. It typically takes NVIDIA about 3-4 months after a major Android release to get it out to their Shield product line.

As far I can tell this delay is on Google, not Nvidia. The Assistant update for mobile/tablets did not require an update from either the manufacturer or mobile carrier. The Assistant update was pushed through a PlayStore update of the Google app and a server-side switch. The Android TV team at I/O said Assistant will be available to all Android TV devices back to Marshmallow sometime "later this year". I'm sure Nvidia is getting anxious at this point. They probably have the Spot ready to release but are waiting for Google to finish Assistant for TV.

Don't promise something you can't deliver.

It's crappy they announce this stuff so early and miss deadlines. Nvidia wouldn't of announced spot without Googles blessing.

In short, Google is full of shit when it comes to Android TV support. There are still 2 "Google" apps on the app store that don't even over ride each other and neither has Assistant.

Atv seems forgotten if you go to nvidias site it still says coming early 2017 if google or nvidia cared they would fix that
