I think I got Nougat yesterday. The real deal, that is. Didn't check afterwards as I didn't have time (and now I'm going to sleep), but it said it was a OS update. The device rebooted with a little guy welding and then all apps were optimized.
Edit: Turned out it was the July update which forced itself onto the device.
I'm sure this is a false alarm.
It was probably the old security update from a a couple months back.
I noticed the update forced itself onto a couple of my mi boxes lately.
I just checked, and I have an update to the Android Security from July 1st, 2017. 424.4 MB
The "little welding guy" hehe, he pops up for any updates, security, hotfixes etc.

East Coast USA - no new update yet.
Spammed the Check for update and rebooted my device.
Still on Ver 6.0.1 July 1 2017 security patch level.
Guess still no nougat for me.
