Is it REALLY a price drop when they take away a $60 accessory and only give you a $20 discount? Sounds more like a price increase.
Seems like removing a $60 retail price controller should net you more than a $20 discount. This just evens the price with the Apple TV 4K.
The version with the controller has been on sale, albeit infrequently, for this very price.
I noticed on the comparison chart in the article that private listening is mentioned as a feature on the Shield.
With this remote-only version, there won't be any private listening capabilities, since the new remote no longer has a headphone jack and you won't be getting the controller with that feature.
Not a big deal I am sure to some, but it is a pretty handy feature if you're ever watching a movie late at night and don't want to wake people up.
They should release a lite version for $120 focused on consuming media instead of gaming. It would be a smashing hit.
You'll still be able to get the controller/remote version for the same regular $199 price.
seems crazy....This has regularly been on sale for around $180. Also when there often Amex Best Buy offers....The lite version should be priced at ~$150 to justify the removal of the controller.
Hmm. Maybe the $199 one will jump to $219 to make the market that much more unsatisfactory. Never know. $100 jump for an SD card slot and 500gb drive is a bit much considering I've recently saw 4tb portables for $90.
I dont see the point of 4K capable Android TV if the YouTube app can't even play in 4K anymore. But there are other people who use it for things like plex I suppose.
(remote only)
$179.99 for the remote only?
Honestly I wish they'd come up with a $100-$120 Lite version too. That'd be hard unless they use a different processor though...
