slow and unresponsive

by arkestry2

i am really frustrated with my new sony x900e. i’ve had it for maybe three months now and it’s so slow! are all smart tvs like this?

when i first got it i downloaded a lot of apps cause i was excited but i quickly deleted all of them and just kept a few like the essentials: hbo, showtime, hulu, netflix and spotify. did downloading all those apps in the first place slow down my tv? i also connected my 1tb hard drive to the tv to watch some videos but it took forever to read my drive (probably shouldn’t have done that). did that affect my tv?

when waking up the tv, it takes forever to get to the main menu and it’s said “leanback launcher has crashed” or sometimes along those lines. watching youtube “error has occurred” pops up when watching videos and even videos are laggy.

are there some tips to recovering the speed on my tv before i resort to a factory reset? thanks!

Factory reset would be where I would start. Turning off Sony select, Sony shelf, and samba interactive tv are good ways to speed things up a bit. You can also go into the settings and turn off lots of the suggested things in the top row

have a look in /r/bravia there was a thread there which had instructions under developer options to restrict background process to like 4 and it makes a big difference and a few others settings.

My solution was to use an nvidia shield TV which I originally bought for my bedroom but I'm retiring that and going for an apple TV 4K since there are fuck all apps after all this time for catchup/ on demand in Australia

edit: here was that thread to help speed things up https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/69q9fe/performance_tip_limit_background_processes/
