Can someone help me decide between the Official xiaomi gamepad and the Nexus player gamepad from Asus? Both seem a good option. I want it to play games on my mi box, is it recommended or everything is slow and I just need to keep my money

It depends on what layout you want and what features. It seems the xiaomi gamepad has tilt capability and rumble the Asus does not. But the Asus gamepad is around $10 to $15 cheaper. I have 4 and they are rock solid.
If you're just going to play emulators and games that support controller mapping. I use T3+ Bluetooth gamepads that you can also use with your phone with a clip. The gamepad is around $9 on ebay. It lacks a home button but you can get around it by using the remote. What I like about these controllers is they have select and start buttons that both the xiaomi gamepad and the asus gamepad lack.
I have to Mi Gamepad. Very solid build. Never had a single misclick or wrong alignment crap. Its really nice. Only drawback is that it uses 2 batteries instead of a rechargeable battery. Lasts about a month with heavy gaming. Happy with mine
Fair warning: Not all games recognize or map their buttons to the Xiaomi gamepad. Many apps assume the Nexus Player Gamepad and this shows.
I've had great luck with this one... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EO5QPN2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The Xiaomi pad feels good. I can't comment on the Nexus Player gamepad as I've never used it, but I bet it's about the same.
