Hi all, I am wondering if anyone knows how to remove apps such as ‘Opera’ from the apps menu of the home screen. I have tried selecting the app by long pressing the middle button, this allows you to move apps and delete ones that you have installed, but not the ones which come pre-installed.
Depending on the app, if it’s something you want to get rid of, you probably can’t.
The best you can do is move them to the end of the row. For my 2015 set, this includes great mandatory apps like “Register TV & Get Bonus Offers”. The best part is that even if you do register your TV, you can never remove this app from the app list.
Other things you can’t do include getting rid of the suggestions section. It must take up 1/3 of the screen regardless of whether you have disabled all of the suggestions. Also on my 2015 set, the CPU is so underpowered that I can’t run apps like Food Network without constant stuttering, and volume control is so slow with CEC that it can take 10 seconds to display on the screen.
There have been updates to the OS, but most refused to download automatically and after install required a full factory reset and reconfiguration of every app to avoid “Unfortunately x app is not responding”, grey screen crashes and other issues.
I knew the built-in AndroidTV would go out of date, but I never realized it would be so bad so fast.
Overall it’s been a very customer hostile experience and it will be my last Sony TV.
