MiBox android tv weird internet problem

by fadimr3e

Hi I recently bought a mibox 4k For the past month everything was working perfectly , mainly using Kodi and YouTube apps

Two days ago I started having internet issues , the device is connected through Wifi to a router (currently I don't have long Ethernet cable- to hard wire it)

I noticed it first in Kodi , when trying to stream through different Kodi adding was not working

Then I noticed that the native YouTube app was taking a lot of time to load , while many times displaying a connection error message and not loading at all, when it does load, it takes lot of time to come up, and when trying to play any YouTube video , it buffers for more than a minute then plays it in very low quality

The next day the device worked like a charm but now it is back to the same issue

The device connects to the wifi without a problem , it shows that it has good connection. Moreover , all other devices at home (iPhones, iPad, laptops) work as usual without any slow down in net speeds

What is weird is that nothing was changed prior to this problem , so same router , same settings on router and MiBox, same position of router for past month .

Tried:- Disconnecting from wifi and reconnecting Forgetting the network and reconnecting Rebooting and reconnecting Rebooting the router and reconnecting Checking the date in the MiBox settings to make sure it did not "jump to a past date" Tried using static ip in MiBox settings

Has anyone encountered such problem ? I am starting to suspect that it could be some hardware issue

Your thoughts are highly appreciated

Thanks

And if its wifi interference try changing your wifi band channel.

I had a similar case (but with my ShieldTV) and I had buffering issues with SPMC. OTA pixelation with HDHomeRun.

I changed my band to another one (on another channel) and everything works fine.

Daily uses (websurfing, email, etc), you wont notice but streaming takes alot of juice.

Try a factory reset. If it persists, then do a speed test to see if the throughput drops off, which of course would explain the buffering. Could it possibly be other wifi interference

I have had the same problem as what you had.

When having it connected via Wifi the streaming was very intermittent. Doing a test from my mobile phone to the same wifi network results in much better through put. I even bought a wifi extender and placed it next to the MiBox, but that also didn't help.

At the end of the day I disabled the Wifi on the MiBox, bought a cheap USB to Ethernet adapter, which I then connected to the Wifi Extender, which in turn connects to the main router and all this issues went away.

I'm convinced that something is wrong with the MiBox Wifi.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but you might need to do the same thing to stop you cutting your wrists with spoon out of frustration.
