I recently purchased a 2015 Shield TV 16gb and am having trouble with the device displaying a picture after sleep. I have an IR Harmony remote that turns on my Vizio P502ui-B1, sets the input, turns on the Shield TV and presses the menu button. The TV will turn on and show no signal. I have tried the following changes below but have not found a solution yet. Note that if I turn the tv and the shield off and then turn it back on 5 minutes later, it works properly. It doesn’t display a picture when I turn off the tv and shield and come back in an hour or the next morning.
I have found 2 ways to get the shield to show up on the tv. Either pull the power on the shield and power it back up or change the TV input to a different source, wait 2 seconds, then change it back to the Shield TV Source and then the picture shows up. Has anyone else experienced this and have come up with a solution?
Things Tried that have not worked: Worked with Nvidia support to troubleshoot Factory Reset the Shield TV Tried different HDMI cable Turned CEC on and off - both on the tv and the shield tv and all possible combinations Unplugged any USB devices Disabled Sleep mode entirely Enabled Developer Mode and enabled the Stay awake option Powered on the Shield TV first by the controller or touching the power button then turn on the tv Purchased a second 2015 Shield TV 16gb. Behaved the same way Tonight I changed the resolution to 1080 59hz and will see if that makes a difference. All things tried above were at 4K 59hz.
Edit: the shield is running the latest software 5.2
Edit2: looks like having the shield set to 1080 59hz fixes the issue. When I turn both on the shield shows up right away. I would rather have it set to 4K though. I just installed the 6.0 update and will see if it works any better at 4K.
I have a similar issue on my nexus player. When it sits idle for a while, more than a few hours, I have to pull the cord to get an image. I know it’s working ‘cause it shows up in my “cast to” menu.
