Stream from NAS/Windows to AndroidTV via smartphone browser

by badoualy

Hi,

can't figure out if this is possible, it should be since it seems rather simple.

I have:

  • Android TV
  • Android smartphone
  • Some network share (Samba via Windows for now)

I want to:

  • Browse this share via my smartphone (faster/easier than on tv)
  • Play the selected content on TV (on VLC probably?)

But I don't want to media to be read on the phone then casted to the TV.

All the remote app I found were only to open app on TV etc.

(If you can tell me a way to do the same with a YouTube video that'd be awesome, browse on phone, then queue on android TV app (but have the TV fetch it from the web, not via the smartphone)).

If it's not possible I'll just code it because it should be pretty easy.

For YouTube - just cast it to TV.

For shares - install Plex server on the NAS, use Plex app to cast it to TV.

Run Plex and cast from your phone.
