Change Home Screen Recommendations Row?

by BadBreath911

The Home Screen's recommendations row is kind of pointless. If I have Hulu installed, it will list popular shows on Hulu. I have no interest in any of these shows... so I end up just hiding the Hulu app from the recommendations. The same goes on for Twitch, YouTube, HBO, Showtime, etc... So basically I've disabled everything because of how pointless it is.

Is there a way to change the recommendations row so it instead shows updates to my subscriptions?

For instance, for Hulu, when one of my subscribed shows has a new episode... it should show that. With Twitch, when one of my followed channels is live, it should show that. For YouTube, new videos in my subscriptions, etc...

No. It's all dependent on how the app developer designates it.

Even Google's implemention sucks; it pulls from trending videos instead of videos from your subscriptions.

This will all change with Oreo though.

I wish I could stop seeing makeup tutorial YouTube videos on my home screen. I'm a single, straight guy who lives alone and I've never watched any of those videos in my life. Why they're on my home screen makes no damn sense.

PBS Kids and Plex both show stuff I'm interested in thankfully. But generally I wish it would work off your Watch Lists for other apps (Netflix, Amazon, Subscriptions for YouTube).

If it's not clear, the big problem with that row is that most apps took it as an opportunity to advertise content, even Google. They'll say it's for content discovery, blah blah, but really they are advertising their other content rather than showing us the content we want to see. They made it work for them, not us.

I’ve disabled the row entirely, as it did nothing for me. All apps I use are neatly arranged in the ‘App’ row. Even disabled the ‘games’ row.

I honestly never look at that row at all. Doesn't really bother me that it's there, either.

if you use live channels app it show programmes on at the same time you may be interested in which is very handy

As others have said, it's up to the app developer.

Plex is one of the few apps with useful recommendations, as it shows the next episode of shows you're currently watching.

Would be nice to have links to live channels on the recommendation row. Right now, I only have Plex enabled.

I know with live channels recommendations turned on they appear but it’s inconsistent. Would love to just select favourite channels that are always there.

Seems that recommended apps are a Mibox thing. The Shield does not have such a row on the lean back launcher. It does a pre installed apps row including Amazon video.
