Oct 4th Event

by andyworld

Three years ago in October, we got the Nexus Player. One year ago in October we got the Mi Box. Anything announced this October for Android TV (other than Google Assistant already being available)?

The mi box had nothing to do with Google...it was showcased at Google I/O in the spring but really, not a Google device and nothing to do with googles fall event.

YouTube TV app would be nice

Nexus player with assistant controlling your home with nest automation, auto opening doors and windows for thermal management. :P

Usually new TV connected devices are spotted in some federal filings (like at the FCC) before they are announced. Nothing like that has been spotted online so I'm going to guess no Android TV hardware announcements.

That said, it does seem like there is a hole in the market at around $90-$100 of a reliable 4K HDR Android TV device. The Mi Box has it's fair share of issues and the Shield TV, while awesome, is priced to match it's capability.

The Nexus Player is 3 years old, not 2.

I regret upgrading my mibox to the beta nougat build. Since I can't go back and I'm having issues, I would love to hear of something new coming out as long as it was around $100.

However, with the radio silence with new products, I feel like I'll just end up getting an nvidia shield in the next couple months.

It'd be cool to see a new Android TV announced.

Doubt it. So far there is zero hint at anything other than new phones coming out.

Maybe they should announce the poor app support of Android TV and how they plan on fixing it. I have a 2 year old who watched Disney Junior and now it's disabled for a new Disney App called DisneyNow. Announced its available on all platforms but Android TV until next year. This is what drives people toward Apple products.
