VLC & Local network

by MakoSipper

Hello,

I must be missing something, but I can't seem to access my (Windows 10) shared folder from VLC app (2.5.0) on my android tv.

I can open the Local Network folder and I see my PC name there, but when I try to open my PC folder, it just keeps loading forever and nothing happens.

I've managed to open that folder with apps like X-plore and Total Commander, but not from VLC. I've also managed to play files in that folder with VLC from both the aforementioned apps.

Running a video straight from VLC has 2 main pros for me: only having to use 1 app; and making VLC resume my video if I stop watching it midway.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I have Universal media server installed on my pc. How is your share setup? Make sure it's only just the directory (s) needed.

had that kind of issue and gave up... so I set kodi on my main pc and shared from there through upnp.... works like a charm with vlc

I've an old laptop with all my media on an external hdd. VLC sees it fine over SMB. I didn't install or add anything extra to it, just made sure the various built-in settings for sharing over the network with SMB worked and made sure the external disk was a shared folder too.

I think I have a solution. Enable SMBv1 on windows. I think it gets disabled upon some patches or upgrade. https://support.microsoft.com/en-my/help/2696547/how-to-detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-smbv2-and-smbv3-in-windows-and
