There's an ongoing problem with casting if you have the shield connected by ethernet. I haven't been able to cast to mine for months and haven't been able to figure out how to fix it.
Casting from my phone has never been an issue, but Google Home can be a real pain in the ass. My wife and I use a shared Google account between us as well as our own accounts. On the Home, we have the same and voices trained so it knows who is who. After about two days of on and off trouble shooting, I found that if I add my Google account to the shieldTV, select it as active and then back to the family account, I was finally able to cast from Home to the shieldTV.
I had a heck of a time casting, till I set my phone to a 2.4GHz Wifi network, set it up through the Home app in there, then set my phone back to 5GHz and everything was fine every since.
You have to go into applications, find Google cast reiciever and uninstall all updates, clear cache and data, then install updates from the play store. Restart the shield.
