Kodi on Nexus player. How to access USB drive?

by raadhey

I have kodi17 on my Nexus player. I tried plugging a FAT32 formatted USB drive (not a HDD). On being prompted I let the device format the drive as a storage device. If I go to the stage option it even shows me the 8GB drive. If I use ES FILE Explorer as well I can access the drive. However in Kodi on the device I’m unable to find the drive. I was hoping to use it as additional storage to let some add ons write to it and if possible also files on to it to play locally. The latter is not a necessity.

Can anyone please help me out with what I’m doing wrong?

Thank you.

When you open the file manager to add a source, it defaults to /storage/emulated/0. You need to click "Root filesystem" to get to /, then click storage to get to /storage. From there look for your USB device name. Example: if my USB stick is DDF7-141A you would go to /storage/DDF7-141A/

Is your Nexus Player rooted? If so, use StickMount for better external drive access.

If I remember correctly, I had to downgrade to 5.0, root, install stickmount, and stop updates to get this to work properly.
