I know theres a pretty big price difference but I can't decide between the two.
Any issues with the Mi Box 3?

Any issues with the Mi Box 3?
I have both the shield and the mibox3, there is no comparison, shield hands down; the mibox is truly a piece of unreliable junk with a very poor Wi-Fi radio.
The MiBox is less powerful, doesn't have Ethernet, and has trouble with some 4k content. It's still not bad for the price, but if you can afford it the SHIELD does everything better.
What "Issues" will specifically affect the buyer should be the ultimate question ? What is the media player going to exactly be used for ?
Streaming lots of 4K content, money no object = Shield. It really will be superior.
BUT...
Potential Shield owners really have to read this ongoing thread: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/990328/shield-tv/netflix-random-frame-skips-2015-after-5-0-2-2017-with-5-1-/post/5214321/#5214321
Basic 1080p streamer with some casual 4K Netflix and Youtube ( NOT 4K Kodi ) = Mi Box
The Mi Box has a superior Wireless remote. It really is good. AC WiFi is fine on the Mi Box provided you have a decent home WiFi router.
Either is fine. I have both and don't really notice a big difference between the two. The shield has no lag, mi box has a little. Mainly in Kodi and sometimes on the home screen. But 99% of the time no difference.
I do like the mibox controller better. I would honestly get another mibox before another shield due to the price difference
Save yourself some headache and buy a Shield. Superior performance and support.
I started out with a Mi Box, but bought a Shield when I realized it wasn't going to get any love. The second biggest disappointment is the terrible color shifting when you cast from a full PC screen. Locked bootloader is a bit annoying, but not a big deal, I guess.
Unfortunately the Mi remote feels much better in the hand than the Shield's dito. It also has a smarter design (two volume buttons and a power button).
Just got a MI Box for my 1080p TV it works great. I get a sold 200mbps connection to my AP which is plenty. I could not justify almost triple the cost of the shield as I would have needed to buy an ir adapter or spend $300 for the pro as I have a harmony 650.
Shield is King and Queen
I just recently bought a shield. For Kodi, YouTube, Netflix etc. I find very little difference between the two devices. Of course the Shield is a little snappier but I really only bought the Shield for some light gaming and because I got a VERY good deal on one.
These topics always spark the debate of the shield owners vs the Mi box owners.
Try the Mi Box. If you don't like it you can return it and then get the shield. It's easy as that.
I personally like my Mi Box. Bought two of them and both work great for what I use it for. 1080p broadcasting. I have both connected via ethernet dongles though for no wifi issues. Solid connection solves a lot of disappointment.
Shield is obviously better, but I got a MiBox and it answers all my needs:
-IPTV
-Netflix
-Google Play Music
-YouTube.
It has it's issues, but to me, it's more than worth it for the price.
I have both. Let me tell you what I found.
It seems that the Shield has better attention to detail such as 59.940 hz playback at 1080p instead of just 60 hz on the Mibox. The shield is of course updated to the latest android than the Mibox. Google play movies play back smoothly on the Shield compared to a frame drop every minute or so on the Mibox at 1080p. YouTube plays fine on both boxes.
The Shield will tell you that the volume control will not work on certain apps with an on screen notification while the Mibox will just ignore any volume adjustments. The Shield control is very nice and well made but harder to use to adjust the volume and it sometimes hits pause when you don't want it to. I actually like the cheaper Mibox control better.
While I found that the HBO now app works perfectly on the Mibox, I recently started using HBO Go instead. I found that it does not work very well on the MiBox and the Shield. There are the same buffering issues on both boxes unfortunately. I would be interested if anybody else experienced this problem. This a big disappointment to me since HBO Go is officially supported on the shield although not Mibox according to HBO's website.
I personally found that Amazon Prime works well on both boxes. Amazon Prime will cause the lean back launcher to stick so I have to restart the app after using it on the Shield for some reason. The Amazon app on shield is missing some view list buttons. Of course Amazon video is not supported on the Mibox to it may stop working any day now.
Some Vudu movies (Impact) that don't play well on the Mibox and do play just fine on the Shield.
So overall the Shield works better that the Mibox and this is just 1080p since I do not have a 4k screen as of yet. The Shield is much nicer than the Mibox but it sill can suffer the same problems such as HBO Go. So I not at pleased with it as completely as I was expecting for $200. So don't feel so bad if you just get the Mibox for $70. It's quite a deal.
Mibox was a solid D in my opinion until the Nougat beta 1035. It's now finally the device that was promised a year ago. HDR Netflix, and 4K HDR local playback through Kodi finally works and is smooth. However the update still isn't officially released and YouTube is broken with the latest beta. Also no official Amazon app either which might be a deal breaker if you don't already have a smart TV with that app.
The Shield is far superior in my opinion. It is so far superior, in fact, that I will be replacing a Mi Box with another shield. The build quality of everything, attention to detail, and user experience are superior. I have never once had a single issue with the Shield, while I have had multiple (albeit small) issues with the Mi Box. Sometimes it is nice just to "set it and forget it."
I swear this topic comes up once a week.
If money is no issue: Shield. If money is an issue: save up and get the Shield.
I had the Mibox and got fed up with it. Wish I had gotten the Shield in the first place.
