Apologies if this doesn't fit in the realms of this sub.
My father-in-law asked me to update his android box, and kodi, as he couldn't get anything to work anymore. He has an MXQ box with android 4.2 on, and you can't download the updated version of kodi from the play store because it says it's not compatible.
I've tried to figure out how to update the firmware but so far I'm stuck.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Maybe there's an MXQ subreddit then? Cuz we only discuss devices that run the official Android TV operating system in here.
His box runs regular touchscreen Android. And a really fucking old version at that. That's the problem with these random junk boxes... make an old-ass build from AOSP and sell the hardware. Then they have your money, so no reason to ever update it. And that doesn't mean just missing out on new features, but also missing out on security patches, too.
