Casting to mi box

Firstly I apologize if this has been discussed, I'm using the Reddit app but the search function isn't that great.

I'm thinking about getting an mi box but I'm curious about its ability to be cast to.

I wasn't aware not all apps are avaiable for Android tv as they are in the play store.

I've read that apps like CBC, CTV and Cravetv are not available for Android tv so they would need to be cast to the box from my phone.

What is the quality of the casting? Would it be the same if I were using a chromecast?

Tv is 1080p.

Official Android TV boxes are basically also Chromecast/Googlecast receivers, so it should be no different than using a Chromecast.

Sorry for hijacking this but I also have some questions.

I currently have a Chromecast 2 which functions 100% exactly what I want, but I kinda want to upgrade to the Mi Box. My usage right now is often casting youtube WHILE the TV is off, but CC2 can turn on the TV and change input directly without me messing with the remote.

Does Mi Box have this functionality as well? I've seen some post saying it doesn't work while the Mi Box is in suspend, but I'm okay with it being on all the time.

Another user also said the TV cannot be turned off if the box is not sleeping. How do I turn my TV off in that case?

It's there but it's not great. The Mi Box needs to be on for it to work and it goes to sleep eventually. I haven't found a way to keep it on so I can Cast something whenever.

I have a couple of Mi Boxes and I haven't had any issues casting to them. Works fine for me, but I only use a couple of apps regularly. Both are on 1080p TVs.

You are correct that CBC, CTV, Sportsnet, CraveTV, NHL etc. don't have native Android TV apps but casting from those apps on iOS has worked fine for me. I use the NHL app the most, no issues. Casting tabs from Chrome has also worked fine. The only app I have had an issue with is TMNGo app on iOS, but I think that is just a shitty app.

That has been my experience, I know the Mi Box has been hit or miss for other people.
