Looking for a replacement for my Nexus player. It's being up there in age and it's not running as well as it used to. Could someone recommend a new Android TV box that gets updates (Android 8)? I'm leaning towards the Mi box, but not sure about the updates.
Shield is by far the best device you can get. The X1 is powerful, it has Amazon Instant Video, and it actually has an Ethernet port.

If you want an up to date device, then Shield it is. Xiaomi has been dragging their feet about the Mibox for a while.
Xiaomi Mi Box. For its price, I think it's understated. Runs 4k Hevc files, Kodi and SPMC works great.
And to my surprise, last week I popped a 64gb USB as internal storage, add some USB hub and gamepad, it's can actually play casual games! Kids loving it now.
Do you need something the update gives you? Mi Box works fine with the current version of software it has now unless you want DVR directly on the box.
