Hi everyone,
I just bought a Xiaomi Mi Box (which I am using with a RJ45 wire) but nearly all of my movies (4K - H265) are laggy.
I'm reading them with Kodi but...do I have to configure something ?
I have already tried to modify the cache config (advanced settings file) but even when I'm doing that, the movies are laggy.
I've even tried with MX Player, Video Station or VLC., it's still laggy...
All of my movies are on my NAS Synology DS716II+.
I bought it because it can read DTS audio (my TV can't), but at least with my TV I don't have any problem to reading them without lag.
For information, my Mi Box config is @4K - 60fps.
Thanks for your help!
Short answer - you bought the wrong box for 4K home networked H265 (HEVC) video playback.
Even the NVIDIA Shield is the wrong box for mixed local storage 1080p / 4K H265 video playback due to colorspace bugs like this: https://github.com/koying/SPMC/issues/1060
4K Netflix is fine on the Mi Box - yes - but as you increase the 4K Bitrate, especially files with HD Audio included - those sort of bitrates will bring the Mi Box to its knees due to Network data throughput. The Mi Box's graphics chipset is fully capable.
If Xiaomi designed the Mi Box for High Bitrate 4K HEVC video with HD Audio they would have at least included an Ethernet port on the device.
It a 15-20Mbs 4K WiFi streaming platform only, all designed around Max. Netflix bitrates, not much more.
Do not waste time buying USB adapters as that will not fix the 4K HEVC problem.
Don't get fooled by so called adapter "workarounds". I've done extensive testing and they simply will not work reliably. Complete waste of time on the Mi Box.
In the 1080p / 4K HDR local video playback space the AMLogic S905X / S912 boxes running OSMC or LibreELEC Kodi Krypton actually work properly vs any Android TV box on the market.
