Sling app broke Mi Box

by raduque

Installed Sling on a Mi Box and now can't do anything. Box is unresponsive to the remote and Sling starts up immediately on boot when doing a power cycle.

Can't get back to home to uninstall or factory reset the MiBox, and can't figure out how to factory reset it from the remote.

Ideas? Note: I'm over a thousand miles away and trying to do this for my mother over the phone. She doesn't have a keyboard available, like I read on some other posts. I told her not to get Sling, because Sling is stupid and apparently they can't code an AndroidTV app.

Just going to say that Sling TV is actually pretty great and I have had zero issues with it for months. Very fast, reliable, and an actual native Android TV app, unlike most of the streaming services. The only other one I would recommend would be PSVue, but Sling TV is far from bad.

As for your problem, I have no clue. I don’t see how downloading a well known app could ruin the box. Must be something else.

You can try downloading the Android TV Remote app from the Play Store on her phone and then pair it with the TV (pairing works even if you're inside an app). That app is more reliable because phone's bluetooth is better than that of physical remote's.

Once it's paired, use it to jump to homescreen and disable Sling starting at boot from settings.
