How do I connect my phone (as a remote etc.) to my Mi Box?

by Bowmbaclott

During the initial setup of my box I was prompted to setup my phone over Wifi/Bluetooth and I began the process but there was a hiccup along the way which forced me to leave this step incomplete. Now that my box is setup and running perfectly otherwise, when I attempt to setup my device (Samsung Galaxy S8), using the Google app it doesn't recognize the box on my phone. (I do have WiFi and Bluetooth turned on.)

Sidebar: I'm entirely new to Android TV and a fairly novice user of apps that require pairing and the like. It seems like it should be a simple fix but I simply couldn't work it out.

I'm not an Android phone user, but I did download an app for the iphone called "Android TV" which allows remote control of the MiBox. I would assume they have it for Android phone also

I think these are two different things. The first question makes it sound like the answer would be the Android TV Remote Control app to control your Android TV device from your phone.

The second question sounds like you're having trouble finding your device in the Google Home app . This app is more for setting up Chromecast devices and configuring multi-room audio or Backdrop settings. I don't think that's what you're looking for.

I also don't know why the Mi Box even needed to bring your phone into the setup process. I don't have one myself but I know my NP and Shield TV didn't require me to have a smartphone for setup. You should be able to use the included remote and get through setup just fine.

If nothing works I would personally remove and add your account again, and if that failed to help, do a factory reset and setup the box without the phone. I have had this happen before and a factory reset and setup without phone was my working solution.
