Mid box?

by soobak4u

HI

I've been looking for a box and ultimately it seems the nvidia shield is the best but the price is a bit much higher since I need at least 3-4 boxes. The alternative most suggest seems to be the xiaomi mi box. But I would like a box with more things like an ethernet port.

I've googled a bunch and see things like skystream one, minix, droidbox, etc....

How come these aren't really recommended here? Basically I'm asking for a recommendation of a box that lies in between the shield and the mi. Any good ones?

Thanks!

Those are not AndroidTV. They are cheap boxes that have Android OS which is made for phones.

Essentially, the real AndroidTV is made for large screen TVs with remote control interface. The cheap boxes are made with an OS designed for small touchscreen phones. They mod it by using an air mouse remote, so it's a pain in the ass like using a Wii remote.

Nexus (discontinued), Mi Box and Shield are the only ones I know of that are real AndroidTV devices.

Mi Box works great and you can add a cheap USB Ethernet dongle if you need it.

Juts get Mi Boxes and buy USB ethernet adapters.

Unfortunately there's no in between solution that runs actual AndroidTV. Those other things you mention don't run the same OS, and generally don't have the proper DRM to show FHD and 4k content.

If you use Netflix and/or Youtube, or just like a nice and fluid OS, get an actual AndroidTV device. I've used many cheap Android boxes and once I got a MiBox I was hooked to AndroidTV. I recently also bought a ShieldTV.
