What happens when you tell it to play a video on your TV when it's in standby mode? I guess you can't even cast to it from a phone either when it's not on?
I can turn on my TV using Google Assistant on my phone and my Nvidia Shield Android TV. I just named my Shield to the name of Sony since my TV is a Sony one. I can turn it on and off
I bought a Logitech Harmony Hub which can control the TV, game consoles, and other devices using the Google home. I understand that you shouldn't have to spend more money to do that, but Google clearly isn't going to do it anytime soon so...plus Logitech seems to put a lot of effort into Harmony, there's a lot of cool things you can do with it.
The insane answer to this is to by a Chromecast I guess
