What android box/stick is right for me?

by TonyAtCodeleakers

I used to be a big tech geek who didn't mind extra work for the best possible results. That led me to build a gaming/media pc that is paired with my suround sound and projector in my room.

For the past 4 years this setup has been perfect for my needs but now that im in college and in serious need of an upgrade I am clueless. I need something that I can just hit power on my remote and have my media ready for me.

this is my check list that I am trying to fill

  • supports suround sound

  • non ir remote or strong enough emitor so that placement of device is not an issue

  • compatible/compatability with xfinity live tv app

  • popcorn time support (i have had issues in the past with firesticks and the remote not working in the app)

  • expandable storage would be a plus aswell

  • im broke so sub $100 aswell

i know it sounds like I am asking to be spoon fed here but no amount of reviews have led me to find anything that satisfys what I am looking for on the software end (xfinity and popcorn time compatability) so I am looking for people who have used the device they are suggesting and can attest to its usability

See the right Hand sidebar for Android TV devices. That is what this Subforum is all about. Not general tablet/touchscreen OS - Chinese Android junk. You will get no help for such tablet OS boxes here.

Android TV - Sub $100 would be a pretty old NEXUS Player or a 2016 Xiaomi Mi Box.

Outside Android TV - the 2017 4K Amazon Fire TV Gen 3 is about to be released in 9 days time for $70. May be worth a look too.

Popcorn Time. I haven't heard that one mentioned in a while.

The Xfinity Stream app isn't compatible with Android TV devices, unfortunately.

Go for the Mi Box. For 70 bucks it will fill all of your needs. Also, your future proofing for when you get a 4k TV

ditch popcorntime, it's time for /r/terrariumtv

Learn the difference between androidtv and a box running android first before asking for help. Or at least try.

There are only 3 androidtv players that are worth mentioning. It's not that hard to choose a box from only 3 choices. If you don't know at least these 3, you're in the wrong sub buddy.
