Vimeo is Awesome; YouTube SUCKS (Recommendations row)

So I just wanted to say that the Vimeo Android TV app is great. They understand how to actually recommend videos in the LeanBack launcher. I love to scroll through the LeanBack launcher and view recommended videos from various apps (why can't Netflix start recommending videos here?! :( ).

They seem to recommend videos that are from my subscriptions, or at least related to my subscriptions, or watch history. But YouTube... they don't get.

YouTube keeps recommending videos (in the LeanBack launcher recommendations row) that they "think" I should watch based on what everybody else likes or based on them being super popular. I had to disable YouTube from showing up in my recommendations bar due to inappropriate thumbnails I don't want my kids seeing, or excessive amounts of annoying liberal-left late-night show clips. I don't have anything in my subscriptions or YouTube watch history to justify their showing up (and if I happened to watch a video that I don't want to modify my YouTube recommendations on the actual website, I purposely delete it from the history). But yet these dumb videos keep showing up that I don't care for.

Hopefully YouTube will get it and change how they recommend videos in the recommendations row.

I'm sick of seeing videos for that douchbag Casey Neistat on my homescreen daily. Or videos of makeup or style tutorials. Who watches that shit? Why doesn't it show recommendations that are tailored to the user?

Agree 100%. Vimeo on Android TV is a thousand times better than Youtube in every way.

Have you logged into the YouTube app on Android TV? I would hope it would serve recommendations based on the signed-in account's watch history..

Recommendations row is legacy now (O killed it) so I wouldn't expect any app developers to spend even a moments thought on it.

In the meantime, turn off the YouTube recommendations if you don't like them.

I have not found a single app that uses the recommendations row properly. Even Hulu uses it to tell me about shows I have no interest in, instead of showing me when my watchlist has new episodes.

yt suggestion are mostly crap. recent example - i don't follow soccer (or international sports news at all really) and it started plastering the recent clip of the keeper getting killed in-game all over the place... gee, thanks.

i've also told yt to stop suggesting certain youtuber's channels, yet, somehow they keep showing up in recommendations...

their shiz needs more tuning.

Even the recommendations in the app suck now.

I used to get mostly recommendations based on subscription activity and related, now my recommendations are 90% kids videos thanks to my kids viewing activity.

Which would be fine, except i watch YouTube more than they do, and I'm deliberately not subscribed to any of those channels. It's like YouTube is prioritizing non-subscription based recommendations over subbed stuff.
