Android TV is Haunted...

by pyrolite999

So, this has happened before, but today was much more spookier...

We've come home and woken up in the morning to find our Living Room TV on. I have an Nvidia Sheild hooked up to a Bravia TV (which is also Android TV, but we don't use that part). I also have a Harmony Smart Remote/Hub and Google Home which we can turn it on/off through IFTTT. I just chalked it up to something weird happening on the IFTTT or Google servers triggering commands on it's own. Anyhow, today, my wife comes home to the TV being on and playing a show on her Netflix profile. A show she doesn't watch. When she left the house, she was watching a show on Hulu, so it couldn't have been her accidentally playing it (it would have been difficult to exit the app, scroll to Netflix, get into her account, find the show and play it all on accident). Soooo...what gives? Why is my sh*t haunted?

I've also considered the idea of someone connecting to my wifi (somehow) and messing with it...but they would have to also have access to my harmony hub or the Android TV app connected to my TV, which can only be done by PIN...I don't get it...

AndroidTV can wake the tv...then you just have to consider why the app might be playing. It happens all the time with our chromecast and mibox that someone casts to the wrong device and it just runs for a bit. Never until we get home from something as of yet. But that is indeed an interesting issue. In your case it probably is ghosts doing the netflix and chill thing.

HDMI CEC...Same happening here. It's buggy in the new update

You should be able to go into the HDMI-CEC options and disable the part where it auto powers on the tv, or just disable cec entirely, i did this on my tv at work when people in camp would prank my chromecast on the open network.

Sony calls HDMI-CEC "bravia sync"

That’s really weird you say that. I woke up the other morning (sometime last week) and my girlfriend got up to go to the bathroom. She opened our bedroom door and the living room was lit up. She found out Shield TV was on the screensaver somehow, which is strange considering it would have had to go on like within the past 15 minutes before that, as the screensaver is only on for about 10 minutes before the TV itself turns back off.

A few days later, our bedroom TV running on a Fire Stick turned on by itself when I was still laying in bed on my phone before going to sleep. I was just browsing Reddit when it happened.

I haven’t had anything play automatically like yours did, though. That would be scary.

I noticed that this can happen if there was a short power outage, then my android TV is turned off, and when it boot the TV and Pioneer receiver wakes up

Maybe the smart hub is misfiring and when it moves to turn something off its issuing commands that is playing the media, plus the CEC hdmi function could explain it.
