Finally! Google Music has been updated!

by eisoniq

Now I can actually go back to everything from the now playing menu instead of have to press back 50 times 😁 We can also play or Thumbs Up music now. And it now does have moods I think. It looks very simplistic now, kinda like what they did with the YouTube app, simple black background, not too many options.

I think Google Music is really under-appreciated for those not into streaming subscriptions. It can do this too, sure, but I store all my albums on it - ala iTunes Match - and have them available on my laptop at work, my phone when out, and my AndroidTV for my proper sound system. All for free. My laptop's a mac and my phone's an iPhone so it's not bias towards any manufacturer.

I do some music exploring on Spotify but otherwise stick to Google Music. Too much choice seems to dilute the experience of anything for me, personally.

Very happy it's seeing some features added and usability increased. I hope the (sometimes freakish) giant backgrounds of the Artist being played have been dropped.

Unfortunately seeing some bugs on my end making the update a little unusable in my case.

If I go into album view and attempt to play an album I've stored/uploaded to Google Music I'm being told it's not available to play. One album even decided to display an album not in my collection after I selected it and looked at the tracklisting.

I didn't have this issue before the update and can't replicate it on my other devices. Using a ShieldTV 2015 16gb on Experience 6, most recent public update.

This is a somewhat interesting insight into the apps testing stages. It appears that this release actually cannot play uploaded albums from the album view. It's hard not to draw a conclusion that this feature was barely tested at all as somebody had to sign off on this update. I wouldn't be making a great leap in saying that Google would be putting all priorities in selling its streaming service and catering to those who want streaming access to its online library, for multiple reasons. But was playing uploaded albums deemed so insignificant that it was able to slip unnoticed as completely broken in this first update in a year?

I was excited to see the update... Looks clean, shows album art (finally). Go to browse some music... What... No ability to browse genres? No top charts. What the hell man?

serverangels

I can finally switch accounts, huzzah!!!

Any screenshots?

I can't find where they put the "I'm Feeling Lucky" radio station. It's the only thing I use. There's a "radio" item, but it's not in there.

Anyone find it?

Deeco7

Yes, just noticed it now. Looks clean and much needed UI refresh. It's actually functional now, who knew?

Any news on podcast support?

I like the new update, but wanted to bring up one feature that seems to have been removed. There doesn't seem to be any screensaver mode in the new version and backdrop doesn't start automatically when GPM is playing. Does anyone else have concern about burn in due to this update? I suppose I could always turn the screen off but that's a chore. It does look slick.

This was a great update! I absolutely hated the old interface with a passion. No more fucking orange triangles all over the place all the damn time. And it now gets the album art correct. I had a bunch of albums before that would show the incorrect album artwork for some damn reason. This interface looks amazing compared to the old one. Good job on this one Google!

I just want the ability for Google Play to never play/skip any music I have given a thumbs down.

zoopz

It got updated...but looks like shit. Now YouTube and Google Music look nothing like eachother, or even Android TV.

AstroChrisR

What a fantastic update! The major thing for me is that it no longer jumps back to the start when you're scrolling horizontally through a list of items... that was the most annoying thing in the old version.

I haven't really dug around too much yet but going by some other replies, it sounds like there could be some things missing that were in the old version...

ZingPLUS1

Yeah... great update. I now have a Sony Bravia and a Nexus Player that no longer can play music.

lanemeyer88

I like the update except they have taken away browsing My Library by genre. I don't who thought that was a good idea. With a rather large, diverse collection, browsing by genre was my favorite way to find something I wanted to listen to.

MrSliff

At first I thought this looked really nice but then I couldn't find the new releases page

saurion747

Same for me, ever since latest update cannot play anything from my library; very frustrating. Radio stations work but I used this app to listen to my collection and because I don't have a subscription adds play every few songs when listening to radio channels. Really hope they fix this soon, was happy to see they finally updated the app only to discover it doesn't work anymore...

likeomgitznich

Yay an update! Maybe it will fix all the things that didn't work. Wait, never mind they just removed them.

Thanks google. I really didn't want those features anyway. /s

Better luck next year I suppose.
