I was annyoed as well. In my case I don‘t really care anymore as it always defaults to the highest possible res. But yeah the design choices in general don‘t make sense to me. It‘s very clear to me that YouTube wants you to watch what they recommend. It‘s infinitely more cumbersome now to just browse your subscriptions. The only thing thats good is the new overlay. It doesn‘t cover the complete screen anymore.
