How to close apps in Oreo

by darthweder

I just upgraded my Nexus Player from Nougat to Oreo, and holding down the circle button no longer brings up the list of running apps, allowing me to shut them down. I can't find out where this functionality has gone, other than going into the settings, finding the app, and then closing it. Anyone know?

Double tap circle?

I have not a Nexus Player, but on my Shield TV, I can double tap the circle/Home button, navigate to the open app I want, press down to move it over the X/Close selection, and press the select button on the remote.

Is this also available on the Nexus Player running Oreo?

As far as I've found the only way you can do this in Oreo is to open up the apps properties and do force close from there - bit long winded.

I don't think there are any TV friendly task managers?

It's so annoying as sometimes things just hang on the NP. Nine times out of ten I just reboot as it's almost as quick.

It's no longer an Oreo feature from what I can tell. Some reviews make mention of this as well. I hope it's added back in as it was very useful. You'll need to unlock your bootloader and downgrade. I've been giving Oreo a go on Android tv for a couple weeks and have to say I'm forcing myself at this point. I do not enjoy the experience
