How good is Mi Box 4K at streaming 4K HDR from Plex?

So yeah, I think the question is in the title. How good does it perform? Any big hiccups? Should I just go with the Shield TV, although it's hard to get a hold of it in Finland.

No fanboy glossing over media player device deficiencies ahead...... ;-)

4K HDR playback anything, especially medium to high bitrate 4K with HD audio attached should not even be attempted on the Mi Box. HDR is not even working properly on the Mi Box.

If Xiaomi wanted you to use such a 4K Combo there would have put a GigaE LAN port on the Mi Box. Its a $69 device designed to stream low bitrate 4K Netflix and YouTube via WiFi and that is it.

Basically get a NVIDIA Shield, but even that has 4K (HDR) colorspace problems when you auto resolution 1080p / 4K switch. You will have to get really familiar with manually adjusting settings all the time for proper 1080p / 4K picture outputs. Basically its a PITA. NVIDIA need to fix it.

Local Networked 4K HDR playback where everything works properly, you need to use a GigaE LAN - Amlogic S912 box that is running LibreELEC Kodi and something like the Plex Kodiconnect addon. Add a USB Dongle Wireless remote and you are good to go. Its Auto 1080p / 4K HDR everything and just works with very few issues. No continually fiddling with settings like a Shield once initially setup.
