I came here for the this isn't a real Android TV box only to be delighted instead.

Looks like it performs as good as or better than every other $80-100 box but has no other special features apart from eth and the latest official Android TV.

  • CPU: S905X Quad-Core running @ 2 Ghz
  • GPU: Mali 450
  • 2GB DDR3 RAM
  • 8GB Internal Storage
  • Dual Band Wifi
  • Bluetooth v4
  • Android version 7.1 Nougat
  • Supports Ultra HD 4K videos @ 60fps
  • Suports HDMI v2.0 and CEC
  • Supports HDR 10 and Doby Digital Plus Audio

From their website it looks like they don't want to do directly to consumer...

  • Operators can customize their own UI for Android TV
  • Prioritizes Operator content, channels, and recommendations
  • Provides maintenance-free Android TV Platform and cost-saving solution to operators.
  • Ultra security Playready and Widewine DRM

There are heaps of good boxes in theory waiting to get picked up by cable companies or IPTV companies so don't hold your breath if you like this particular one.

Looks just like the Xiaomi Mibox. AmLogic FTW.

Wish we had a price. Lower than $70 and I'll bite.

I'll be curious to see how 4K video @ 60fps performs with various codecs in various apps.

The Mi Box does 4K @ 60fps display resolution relatively well, but it only plays VIDEO at 4K / 30fps without dropping frames.

I don't think it's all that important because 4K video @ 60fps isn't going to be a big thing for several years to come outside of youtube videos and video people take on high end phones and other personal devices.

It won't be a release format for TV or film production anytime soon.
