USB3 to Gigabit Ethernet on Philips Android TV

by GuacShouldBeFree

Hi all,

I just bought a new Philips TV with Android 7 ( 55PUS7272 ). I'm really satisfied sof far. The only thing that sucks is the 100mbit Ethernet Port. I've testetd the speed and I only get ~80mbit. I tried to stream a UHB Blu ray rip from Plex running on my PC and it worked pretty well with direct play. It just stopped a few times with a "poor network" error message. The movie has a bitrate of 55 mbit/s. My question is if a USB3 to Ethernet adapter will do the job. The comments say that this model will work on a mii android box so I hope it will also work on the Philips. I know you guys like the shield box but I really don't want an extra box just for streaming movies. Is anyone here who uses an adapter like this or an other model on a Philips?

Thank you very much.

Issue with plex server on your pc,/ router??

I don't think buying that usb3 to ethernet adapter will solve your issue ..

I think that usb to ethernet adapter should work with your TV also.

100 mbit is plenty for 4k. Even two 4k movies at the same time should be able to work.

Your issue is with something else. Maybe your plex server couldn't keep up with the stream even though it was direct play. Server could have been doing something in the background which tied up the hard drives doing something else.

Been there, done that and failed miserably. I've also been having issues streaming certain 4k files(mostly UHD BD-Rips&High bitrate files) to a PUS6401 and tried to find an alternative solution.

Having tried Coredy Aluminum 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub as an all-in-one solution for Ethernet&USB HDD and UGREEN Gigabit Ethernet USB solely for Gigabit Ethernet, I can say that I had no luck with both devices. Whats more is I highly suspect that USB Ethernet drivers(even the most generic ones) are not included in Android kernel.

You may go ahead and try even more devices from vendors having open-box return policy(Amazon etc.), and please report if you find any having a go.

Try to use the dlna streaming protocol it just seems to work better. I had some of the same issues you are having i picked up a Amazon fire tv box it has a gigibit Ethernet port and all of my streaming probems went away.
