Privacy with family-shared Shield

by 2112user

Received my Shield a few days ago. Signed in with my main gmail account. What struck me immediately was that the youtube app was curated to my subscriptions, watch history etc.

Ii signed out of youtube. Then clicked again to sign in and it signed in right away.

II'd really prefer to not clutter my own youtube with the crap my kids watch, nor do I want my viewing history out there for anyone to peruse.

I see I can disable app, and that is probably an OK fallback. But I'm sure I'm not the first with this issue. I'd like to use my main account for the sake of gamestream with nvidia, play music, etc.

Any advice is appreciated.

I would just create a family shared gmail account. This is probably the only way around it.

You can link a secondary Youtube and pause the watch history from the website.

I agree with other posters. I have two accounts, both members of my Google Play family plan (no YT ads, Google Play Music streaming etc). One for my Mi box used heavily by my kids, one for my own devices.

You can sign it off YouTube. If you sign out YouTube will curate to the history of the shield. If you have YouTube Red I'd recommend setting up another Gmail account. You may also want to check out kids YouTube depending on the age of your kids.

Family profiles should come out soon to Android TV seems like a great idea with everyone in the house sharing the same box it almost seems nature to have separate profiles for you're family.

I remember when I got my first pc computer back in the early 2,000s even that had profiles for every user with password protected.

You could install YT Kids for them.
