OTA Tuner over Network

by aclem08

I'm curious if there are any options for connecting an OTA antenna and tuner to my network for Live Channels support. Where my Nexus Player currently sits I don't have good enough reception (metal stud apartment complex) and I'd like to place my antenna in a desirable location and transmit the OTA channels back to my Nexus Player. I'm vaguely familiar with the HDHomeRun offerings but I'm looking for something a little cheaper hopefully.

Are you in N. America or elsewhere '
Your options depend on the tv broadcast standard at your location

Tablo TV is also an option. Different goal than HDHomerun, but it's an option and you can put it anywhere.

Plex is an option too and you could hook it up a computer at a better location to have the server. I'm using plex now (but Shield as my Plex Server). I have the antenna in the back of the house, opposite of the TV, and I "reversed" the Coax so the antenna would go into the splitter and used the house's wires to go up to the Shield.

tvheadend reading the tuner, and tvheadend app for live channel integration

or get a device that publishes iptv urls on the network and use tvirl with live channel integration

Given that they released a newer version of the HDHomerun Connect (Quatro?), people will probably upgrade, leaving lots of used options on Craigslist soon. Right now I see someone selling their Dual for $40.

Thing I like about my prime is thats VERY compatible with UPnP. Works with Video Lan, Windows Media Center, Kodi, Live Channels, Plex, etc, etc. Now if you want basic recording then HDhomerun and Live Channels will work, if you want DVR then its either Silicon Dusts Kodi plugin or Plex where Plex is more expensive, but offers a one time fee that Silicondust doesnt offer.

I installed a HD7694P in my attic and ran a coax line down to my network rack in the garage, where I have a HDHR Connect Quatro located. After I did a scan for channels I installed the HDHR app on both my Shield and MiBox and setup that feed in the Live Channels app.

Works just fine on both.
