Lag on volume change

I have a sony bravia 2017 model with android 7.0 I have an amplifier connected to the headphone jack of the TV.

Whenever I change the volume the TV lags a lot, especially when watching Netflix but also happens in other apps like Kodi. When I change the volume the playback typically stops for 2-3 seconds then starts again as the volume indicator pops up on the screen.

Why is my TV lagging when I change the volume and how can I fix it?

I have the same problem, but amp audio via HDMI arc. I believe it's Sony's fault.

They have been terrible with updates and are skewed with bugs.

My Bravia Android TV does the same. I've seen other people complaining about this on Sony's forums, many of whom also mentioned they used external sound devices, so that seems like a pattern.

Edit: adding up, it already happened on Android 6
