Hey all,
I'm looking to get an android box, but have never used one and don't know much about them. Any help or recommendations would be great.

I can vouch for the Mibox. At 70 bucks, it's a steal. Very simple if you're new to it (as I was 2 months ago when my WDTV died)
Like said, you have 2 options really. Mi Box for streaming only (Netflix, Kodi, YouTube, Chromecast, etc) and more powerful Shield for both streaming and gaming (heavy Android games and PC game streaming).
There the discontinued Nexus and maybe a few other. The main thing is to make sure it is AndroidTV and not Android. The boxes on Amazon, for example are mostly Android box and uses Android phone's OS and not AndroidTV OS.
Well the only two readily available Android TV devices are the $70 Mi Box and the $180+ NVIDIA Shield TV. So depending on your budget, buy the one you can afford.
Awesome, thanks all!
Make sure you can distinguish between an Android Box and an Android TV Box
I’m using The AX9 quad Core box works great with Kodi and Mame4droid but damn does it suck with usb controllers. I have a retrolink N64 controller and the.yellow camera buttons and right bumper seemed to be permanently mapped with the box. If I tap any of the yellow camera buttons it backs me outta any app I’m in. Really frustrating
The Nvidia Shield TV is the most recommended option.
