We tend to restart it every time it goes into sleep. That'll usually resolve any stuttering for us.
I had this some time ago. Tried everything as well and the only solution was to factory reset it. Has been flawless for a couple of months now.
I have 5 Miboxes, they all stutter whether on ehternet or wifi. It is really annoying because they play perfect otherwise. It's like a fast glitchy stutter. It happens often and is annoying. I also have to use Instatv instead of HDhomerun view app because sports play terrible over hdhomerun view/Live Channels. Insta TV plays much better with Live Channels.
I had the same issue. I tried resetting it, restarting it, closing apps and uninstalling apps. I couldn't get it to stop. It happened on every video app and even music apps. I did end up returning it and getting the shield. Hopefully you find a fix.
I haven't had this happen. I'm not sure why it is happening to some of you.
I normally restart at the end of the night (wish it had an off option) and have 50/50 internet.
Try turning on the developer options and set it to 3 background processes.
This fixed my stutter on those cheapo Chinese Android Boxes running s905x processors.
I did it on 2 boxes in my home and it works well so far but have only had it a few days.
Doing this really makes a difference on boxes from 2014 giving them new life and works well on the Nexus player too
Both of my Mi Boxes stutter on both Ethernet and WiFi. Its actually worse on ethernet.

best solution is to purchase a shield.
mi box has numerous issues.
I had this problem also, I had to restart every couple of days, because various reasons like Kodi sound stuttering, falling out of sync etc, video stuttering, Netflix buffering not wanting to start playing etc...evrey time reboot fixed this issues..but since I updated to nougat beta build 1028 its running for 1 month 24/7 without sleep, just works perfectly since then
