Nvidia shield vs mi box?

by scrubguy

I currently own a nvidia shield 2017 and it works great. Im considering buying a mi box for another TV. I would just be using it for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, kodi, web browser and streaming apk apps. I do have strong wifi in my house. Will the mi box be able to handle all my streaming needs without any issues? Or will I notice a big performance difference from the shield? Or is there another worthy Android box on the horizon, worth waiting for. Thanks

it might be able to handle your needs, but yes you will notice a performance difference from the shield.

I have a Shield console (2014) and 2 MiBoxes. The MiBoxes work great for all of my streaming needs and I don't notice any performance differences between it and the Shield.

Also note system updates will be lacking on the Mi Box vs the SHIELD.

I also have one of each and find very little difference between the two. Both are great streamers. The shield is updated more frequently, but the MiBox still works great at a much lower price point.

Yes, it's great for what you are going to use it.

Of course the Shield is overall better, but it also costs about $100 more.

Some people have experience stutter with wifi, but that has not been my experience either with wifi or ethernet

I use my mibox on wifi without any issues, even Kodi steaming high quality fullhd movies from my htpc, never tested 4k because I don't have 4k tv, but the rest never had any issues

Mi Box is fine for streaming video as long as you don't use it for gaming or 4k HDR 60 fps stuff. For general use it's a great little box.

Shield is for when you demand HDR 4k with 7.1 audio. Or when you want to turn it into a Xbox One gaming system.
