Are there cheap devices with real Android TV?

by LordXamon

Simply that. I have a normal TV that can only play avi and some types of mp4 using integrated usb player, and I can not resist anymore.

I want to feel the power to control youtube, netflix and my external multimedia content made by modern codecs with a remote control, without having to get out of bed every time I want to pause or change the video / episode on my pc (which is on double screen with the TV).

Buuuut, I'm poor. The Xiaomi Mi Box 3S costs 100€ in my country and is too expensive, the sexy interface of a real Android TV does not make up for it.

But hope is the last thing that is lost, so here I am. Can anyone recommend me a device with real Android TV for less than 100€?

In case someone is curious or needs some reference, this is my alternative in case I do not find anything: https://www.amazon.es/EgoIggo-Android-Amlogic-Cortex-A53-Smart/dp/B06ZYWZ81H/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510701001&sr=8-3&keywords=android+tv

MiBox is as cheap as it gets unless you can find a Nexus Player somewhere. These other devices are TV boxes with Android. They can do what you want though.

Cheapest option is Chromecast and videostream on your pc.

Free option, install a remote control in your phone and remote control the laptop man!

Not quite the same answer, but since you have a computer outputting to the TV you could pick up a cheap wireless keyboard/mouse combo to keep near the bed if the computer itself is suiting your needs and it's just the getting up part that's bothering you

I cannot recommend those Android boxes. I'd rather you save up for an actual Android TV device. In fact I'd rather you get a Roku or Fire TV Stick or Chromecast instead of those Chinese junk boxes.

Modern codecs = hardware decoding of 10bit HEVC (H.265) video.

That will cripple an old Nexus player completely. Do not buy old hardware no matter what OS it is running.

what about a chromecast? you can use your phone to pause, next or change apps. I don't know an app that will stream network files but you may be able to find one.

You can still buy the original Nexus Player at Walmart for $55 American. I own two and the 2nd one I got, must have come from the UK or something, had a universal power cord, where the original one I bought didnt.

You'll need a OTG USB adapter to watch videos through VLC or Kodi and it doesnt support NTSF.
