Android TV remote with IR for volume and power

by noitstoolate

I have a shield, a samsung (dumb) tv and a vizio sound bar. I have been scouring the web searching for a remote that will do all the regular remote things but allow me to program the power and volume buttons to IR.

I have found many options that will let me do just the 4 colored buttons at the bottom of the remote or full on switch between IR and wireless control via usb.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's a shame that Sideclick still doesn't make a version for the Shield, they make one for the Nexus Player, and that isn't nearly a popular as the Shield.

Buy a flirc for the Nvidia shield if it's the 2017 model and that will accept IR signals.

If you have an old shield or a pro it has and IR sensor as well and you can download the codes on the Anymote app on your phone and teach another remote those codes.

I use my plain old cable TV remote which has learn commands to control my shield sound bar and tv and it works perfectly. It actually works better and more simply that a harmony hub

The new shield remote should control everything. Have you tried going into the options to set this up? If you're on the 2015 model, you'll need to get the new remote or controller.

If you have the Shield pro it has an IR sensor so it can work with a programmable remote FWIW

The febite mx3 pro can do IR on the power button as well as the bottom 4 colored buttons. I'm using it with a raspberry pi3 running libreelec and have the power button turn on/off the tv since the pi is the only thing plugged in and it stays on all the time. I programmed the bottom 4 for input switching, mute and vol +/- but I just have the tv turned up loud enough that I'm using the volume control within kodi via the vol +/- on the remote and haven't needed the bottom 4. I think there's a few minor variations on those air mouse type remotes, the one I got is at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015O5UM6M
