Tanix TX3 Mini vs MECOOL M8S Pro+

by Goats_vs_Aliens

This will be our first Android TV Box, I want it to watch movies streamed online to 1080 from online or local plex server, preferably online via wifi. I am looking at the 2gb/16gb versions of each. It would also need to be able to use Netflix, Hulu and Amazon for movies like our old Roku does. I would like to keep it under $40. And I do plan on buying the MINX Lite to control it. What are your thoughts on these?

P.S. What is the difference between the MECOOL M8S Pro+ & the MECOOL M8S Pro W?

Discussion of Android TV devices.

  • ADT-1

  • Nexus Player

  • Nvidia Shield

  • Razer Forge TV

  • Xiaomi Mi Box

Those are not AndroidTV devices. They are cheap Android (the phone OS) boxes. My advice, stay away from those and get a real Android device. VizNNN listed them already.

The most popular and main two current boxes are the Mi Box for streaming or if you need heavy graphic Android games (and other power needs) then the stronger and pricey-er Shield.

I don't recommend Chinese junk boxes. Those are my thoughts.

Forget Netflix unless you would be happy with max resolution of 480. Specific limitation of generic Chinese boxes. Need major brand name device to support HD from Netflix.

I have a hard time trusting the youtube reviews of these kinds of boxes, they are just so cheap with a saturated market that I imagine many kickbacks are given to get recommendations.

You can be forgiven for thinking this sub is purely about the OS. This is a very officially minded subreddit that will only discuss those devices certified as, sold as, with security updates delivered under, the exact moniker 'Android TV'.

I would love to be able to open the discussion up to include unofficial devices that can run the 'Android TV' OS - so long as it is tagged as 'unofficial build'... But it seems the name is already confusing enough for consumers as it overlaps with so many 'Android' TV Boxes which most of these boxes are initially sold as - it might only cause even more confusion.

LOL this thread. Bunch of dorks trying to justify lining Nvidia's pockets.

What did you end up going with?

I have a tx3 mini and its good great comes rooted, supports heavy games lots of emulators, quite fast for streaming if you need a cheap but reliable and pretty strong tv box I recommend you the TX3 mini, the only cons is that dont support bluetooth

"ad free" ads to watch movies or streaming live events .. any question just ask ..

Also you can download happy chick for games or kobox tv (quite laggy but great) if you want to play all kof games or metal slug and some brawler games both of them plug and play with USB joystick or with bundle and the rii mini plus i8 comes with a bundle just plug it in the USB port and that's it
