Shield TV (first edition) constantly loses internet connection

by eightbitrob

So i have this problem that has been going on for the past few months but now seems to be getting even worse. After a certain amount of time (usually 2-3 hours but sometimes it has been as quick as 30 minutes) my Shield TV will just completely lose network connectivity. Its not just the internet I can't access my NAS either. A simple reboot always fixes it but it will also always occur again at some point its infuriating. It is not a wifi issue since I am hardwired in and literally not another single device in my house does this. I even have a MiBox in my bedroom that works perfectly. Anyone else have this issue? Here is what I have already tried to no avail.

-- Changed Ethernet cable

-- Set it to a static IP

-- Tried it over wifi instead of hardwired

-- Updated to the latest Shield software version

-- Updated router firmware

After latest update my first gen shield loses the wifi connection and that never happened before. The controller also has started losing the wifi direct connection like it did with the earliest builds. Factory reset has not helped resolving the issues. This update has only fucked up things for me

I'm hardwired in and started seeing this after the last update. Haven't had time to dig in so I'm glad I saw this post.

Found this thread looking for a solution to the same problem. Original Shield, although I've been having these problems before the latest update. This has been happening to me since sometime during summer. I am in the preview program though so that may be why. I can either reboot or switch to my neighbors WiFi then back to mine, and that will usually fix it.

I am also having this issue. Was hardwired first. Switched to wifi this morning thinking my switch was flaking out. Thought it was odd that I had to reboot to pick up internet again.

Do you have any wifi networks saved while wired? Try forgetting them. It has caused similar problems in some instances.

Also, when I tweaked my router settings it helped immensely for my STV even though none of our other wifi devices ever act up. I think what helped the most was going on 5ghz, lowering ch bandwidth to 20MHz and removing it from auto ch mode and leaving it on ch 36.

Been good since.

Just bought one because Stephen Cornelius told me too. The first hour of setting up was insane. The thing like static from an old tube tv. Kept cutting out mid update of software. Static, eventually i got it to work. Had it for 2 weeks now and it does this every so often. Very annoying.
